Early Childhood Centres

We have recently committed to funding four Early Childhood Development schools. Located in Nyamwanga, Busire, Kibera and Kandara, these schools allow children to receive an education and provides them with; uniforms, textbooks, learning materials and in some cases, shoes.

In some rural areas children, don’t go to school until they are six or seven years old. This means children below school age are often left to amuse themselves as parents didn’t have the time to spend playing with them or teaching them the basic skills which many children learn before school.

We also run a feeding programme through the ECD Centres as food is not readily available for most of our children, with them generally receiving – at best – just one meal a day at home.

We heard that the ECD Centre in Nyamwanga was underfunded and the teachers were forced to choose which children to feed. They were having to guess which children were being fed at home. We desperately wanted to do something so decided to support the Nyamwanga centre. The school in Busire was having similar issues so we decided to also support them.

Boo had already worked with the ECD Centres in Kibera and Kandara so we were delighted to be able to further aid these schools as well.

Boo’s partners Vision Africa took a poll on the children at the ECD Centres with the following results:

  • Percent of children feel happy and excited to be in one of our ECD Centres. 73% 73%
  • Percent of children have improved health when enrolled in one of our ECD Centres. 63% 63%
  • Percent of children have improved academic performance as a result of our feeding programs. 78% 78%
  • Percent of children have improved health as a result of our feeding programs. 90% 90%
  • Percent of children have improved school attendance as a result of our feeding programs. 93% 93%
  • Percent of children in our After School Clubs previously struggled to access textbooks. 85% 85%
  • Percent of children in our After School Clubs previously had no place to study. 56% 56%

Donations

The Boo organization has already made a huge impact on the lives of children in Kenya. However still over 2 million children go without food, clean water and most importantly education every day. Many have no parents due to the plight of AIDS and many die through neglect.
